Rodolfo Siviero House Museum

A collector’s private residence on the Arno, preserving the refined taste of a twentieth-century art connoisseur and his carefully assembled treasures.

At a glance

Casa Siviero occupies the ground floor of the Poggi building facing Lungarno Serristori, where Rodolfo Siviero maintained his home for many years. Open to the public, it functions as a house museum that reveals the passions and aesthetic judgment of its original owner through his extensive art collection.

History

Rodolfo Siviero assembled a remarkable collection across several decades, acquiring ancient works, Renaissance and Baroque paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. He also formed friendships with important modern Italian artists, acquiring works by Giorgio De Chirico, Giacomo Manzù, Ardengo Soffici, and Pietro Annigoni.

The museum house joins a tradition of Florentine collector-donors—Bardini, Horne, and Stibbert—whose bequeathed collections enriched the city. The premises now operate under a special agreement between the Tuscany Region and the Friends of the Florentine Museums Association.

What you see

The collection spans centuries and mediums: Etruscan finds, Roman busts, fourteenth- and fifteenth-century wooden statues, gold-ground paintings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, bronzes, terracotta, liturgical furnishings, and period furniture. The arrangement throughout the residence reflects Siviero’s personal aesthetic choices and daily life as a collector.

Cultural significance

Casa Siviero documents the taste and collecting practices of the mid-twentieth-century Florentine middle class. The house museum preserves an intimate record of how a cultured individual lived among his treasures, offering visitors insight into private connoisseurship and the relationship between collector, dwelling, and art. The museum also hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
