The Monumento ai caduti in Cadeo, Piacenza, was designed by architect Pietro Berzolla and completed in 1924. The monument stands as a commemorative structure dedicated to those who died in the First World War.

Berzolla designed this work early in his professional career, which officially began in 1922. The architect had studied at the Accademia di belle arti in Parma under established figures including historian Mario Salmi and architect Giulio Ulisse Arata. His own experience of the war was direct: mobilized in 1917 on the Carso front and later in Trentino, he was discharged with the Croce al merito di guerra (Cross of Military Merit).

About Pietro Berzolla

Born in Pontenure in 1898, Berzolla pursued architecture and teaching in parallel. After graduating from the Parma Academy in 1920, he obtained a teaching position in architecture and perspective at the same institution in 1921. During the 1920s and 1930s, his practice evolved from early commissions toward rationalist simplification, a direction that would characterize much of his subsequent work in the Emilia region.
