Ciclisti in campagna is a painting by Enzo Benedetto, created in 1922. The work captures cyclists moving through a countryside setting, reflecting the artist’s engagement with Futurist aesthetics and the movement’s fascination with speed and modern life.

Benedetto (1905–1993) was an Italian painter and writer born in Reggio Calabria who became a significant figure in second-wave Futurism. Though this painting predates his formal entry into Futurist circles by two years, it demonstrates the visual language that would define his practice: dynamic composition and attention to contemporary subjects. Benedetto would later develop a distinctive artistic theory combining color with written word, coining the term cromo-paro-libera to describe the synthesis of painting and writing.

About Enzo Benedetto

Benedetto was introduced to Futurism in 1924 through contact with Mino Somenzi and remained active in the movement throughout his life. He curated key cultural publications including Originalità (1924) and, with Libero de Libero, Interplanetario (1925). In 1926, he organized the Futurist room for the IV Calabrese Art Biennial in Reggio Calabria, where works by Depero, Dottori, Fillia, and others were exhibited alongside his own.
