History

Merano was historically the capital of the County of Tyrol before that role passed to Innsbruck. As a historic capital of Tyrol and a celebrated spa town, Merano embodies the layered Alpine and Central European heritage of South Tyrol. Its resort architecture and cultural institutions reflect a long tradition as a place of healing, leisure and cross-cultural exchange.
