Born in Sassari, Sardinia, Sironi studied engineering at the University of Rome before abandoning it following a nervous breakdown in 1903. He then pursued painting, studying at the Scuola Libera del Nudo of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma under the guidance of Giacomo Balla. In his early career, influenced by his peers Gino Severini and Umberto Boccioni, Sironi worked in a Divisionist style. His exposure to Expressionism during visits to Germany between 1908 and 1911 shaped his artistic development. Sironi remained active across multiple media throughout his career, establishing himself as a central figure in Italian Modernism.
