Giorgio Taverniti: A Retrospective at La Rizza
From August 20 to 24, the Giacomo Zanella Primary School in La Rizza, a hamlet of Villafranca di Verona, hosts a retrospective by sculptor Giorgio Taverniti. The exhibition is curated by the Associazione Culturale Ingranaggio; admission is free, every evening from 8 to 11pm.
Taverniti works between Verona and his studio in La Rizza, already documented on this portal as Studio Arts and Research Giorgio Taverniti, a space dedicated to research on materials — from wood to ceramics to stone — and craftsmanship. The exhibition brings together five works that move through those materials one by one.

A blue-painted metal spring, wound in tight coils, topped with an eye-shaped element: a mechanical bearing reimagined as a pupil watching from above.

On a Perspex panel resting on a table, a spiral and a disc carved from white marble and onyx face each other: two geometric forms in dialogue through the transparency of the support.

A series of terracotta sculptures, lined up on a table: irregular forms, some streaked in black and white, ranging from the broken-open vase to the sculptural fragment.

The painting crosses the surface with horizontal bands of teal and petrol blue, broken by flashes of red and orange: a texture that, up close, recalls the noise of an electronic signal.

A wooden assemblage with sinuous forms, rising from a dark base like a bird caught mid-flight.
