History
The congregation is the oldest in the Sydney Jewish community. The building itself was designed by architect Thomas Rowe and constructed between 1874 and 1878. Aaron Loveridge undertook the stonework while Thomas Wran executed the stone carving. The structure was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 10 September 2004 and was also listed on the Register of the National Estate.
