History
Josep Puig i Cadafalch designed Casa Serra as a private residence for industrialist Pere Serra during the height of Barcelona’s Modernisme movement. Construction occurred between 1903 and 1908. Paradoxically, Serra himself never occupied the house.
The building’s fate shifted with the city’s needs. In 1981, the section facing Avinguda Diagonal was demolished to make way for a modern office building, completed in 1987 by architects Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá. This dramatic intervention sparked considerable debate about preservation and urban continuity.
