History

Southside Elementary is the oldest elementary school in Miami-Dade County. Originally, it shared a schoolhouse building with Miami Senior High School, which later relocated to Little Havana. The building was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on January 4, 1989. In August 2019, the school was renamed Southside Preparatory Academy and opened its first 6th-grade class that same year, marking its expansion into middle school education.
