State Police Car Museum – Virtual Tour 360°

ROMA, LAZIO
State Police Car Museum

A collection of fifty vehicles spanning from the 1930s to today, documenting the evolution of Italian police emergency services through iconic cars and motorcycles.

At a glance

The State Police Car Museum occupies permanent pavilions within the Fiera di Roma, showcasing the motorized heritage of Italy’s national police force. The exhibition traces the development of emergency-response vehicles across nearly a century, from post-war jeeps to contemporary patrol cars.

History

The museum’s collection reflects pivotal moments in Italian policing. Moto Guzzi Stradale motorcycles represent the force’s two-wheeled transport heritage, while the celebrated Alfa Romeo 1900 sedans—known as “panthers”—became symbols of the Volante rapid-response teams in the 1950s.

Among the collection’s most significant vehicles is a Ferrari 250 GTE from 1962, once driven by Marshal Armando Spatafora. Trained by Maranello test drivers, this high-performance car represented a unique chapter in international law enforcement—the only documented case of a major police service operating Ferraris of such caliber.

What you see

The museum displays approximately fifty vehicles arranged within exhibition pavilions. Visitors encounter jeeps from the immediate post-war era, mid-century motorcycles, the legendary black Ferrari 250 GTE, and Alfa Romeo saloons that defined the force’s mid-twentieth-century image.

Cultural significance

The collection documents the intersection of Italian automotive design and institutional history. Each vehicle tells a story of how technological capability shaped police operations, from mobility in challenging terrain to speed and authority on urban streets.
