Villa Ghislanzoni Curti

An 18th-century villa set within a 30,000-square-meter park, now restored and operating as an agritourism estate with grounds adjacent to Andrea Palladio’s UNESCO-listed Villa Gazzotti.

At a glance

Villa Ghislanzoni Curti stands as a private residence and hospitality venue in the Venetian countryside. The estate encompasses formal gardens divided by ornate wrought iron gates and preserves original 18th-century statuary. Its companion property, the Palladian Villa Gazzotti Marcello, remains accessible to guests and represents one of the region’s finest Renaissance designs.

History

The villa’s documented ownership by the Curti family begins in 1864, when they acquired the property—a date confirmed by written records held within the family archives. In 1897, the Curti family extended their holdings by purchasing Villa Gazzotti Marcello, designed and constructed by the renowned architect Andrea Palladio.

The estate gained historical significance as a setting for important events. On 5 May 1918, King Vittorio Emanuele II passed through the villa’s grounds with troops of the Piedmont Brigade, a moment commemorated by a plaque affixed to the entrance gate. After extensive restoration work, Villa Ghislanzoni has been repurposed for agritourism while continuing to host cultural events, theatrical performances, and concerts.

What you see

The villa’s facade showcases 18th-century statuary that speaks to its original refinement. An imposing wrought iron gate, ornamental in design, divides the formal gardens into two distinct tiers, creating a sense of spatial progression across the grounds.

The surrounding parkland spans over 30,000 square meters, providing extensive gardens and landscaped areas. Villa Gazzotti Marcello, adjacent to the main villa, displays the hallmarks of Palladian design and remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site, accessible by request to guests staying at the estate.

Cultural significance

Villa Ghislanzoni represents both private aristocratic heritage and shared cultural value in the Veneto region. Its association with Villa Gazzotti Marcello—a Palladian masterwork recognized internationally—enhances its standing within Italy’s architectural canon. The villa’s role as a host to royal visits and military movements links it to early 20th-century Italian history.
