History
The project began as an idea among a group of Salerno-based artists seeking a permanent venue for their work. After securing municipal approval, the space was entrusted to them without financial commitment from the city. The Province of Salerno provided crucial support by funding seating and stage preparation.
Restoration work commenced in April 2003. The building had fallen into severe disrepair, with rubble and abandoned equipment scattered throughout and extensive interior damage from vandalism. A complete renovation proved necessary to meet safety standards and functional theater requirements.
Construction was managed by Franco Santoro’s company under the direction of architect Giuliano Papa. Interior design was handled by Antonio Mainardi and Professor Gelsomino D’Ambrosio, while artist Pietro Lista created a painting for the foyer. The theater was inaugurated in February 2004 in the presence of Cardinal Martini, RAI television president Lucia Annunziata, actor Carlo Verdone, and city officials.

The restored theater incorporates professional staging and seating infrastructure adapted to its urban setting adjacent to judicial, school, and municipal offices. Interior furnishings and design elements reflect contemporary aesthetic choices. The foyer features a notable painting by Pietro Lista.
