The Rahmi M. Koç Museum is a private industrial museum in Istanbul, Turkey, dedicated to the history of transport, industry and communications. Rahmi M. Koç, retired chairman of the Koç Group and a member of one of Turkey’s wealthiest families, founded the museum in 1991 and it opened its doors on 13 December 1994. The museum is located in Hasköy on the northern shore of the Golden Horn and is housed in two historical buildings connected to one another, open to the public every day except Monday.
History
The site in Hasköy has a long industrial history: the main building is a 19th-century Ottoman imperial anchor and chain foundry (Lengerhane), which supplied equipment to the Ottoman navy. Rahmi M. Koç, who spent decades assembling a personal collection of vehicles, engines and industrial artefacts, chose this location in recognition of its historical resonance with industry and craftsmanship. The museum was conceived in 1991 and opened three years later as a gift to the city of Istanbul. Over the years it has expanded to include an outdoor exhibition area, a submarine, a tugboat, a historic tram and a collection of aircraft.

The museum’s collection spans automobiles, motorcycles, locomotives, aircraft, ships and scientific instruments, covering roughly two centuries of industrial and technological development. Large outdoor exhibits include a World War II-era submarine, a steam-powered tugboat and historic tram cars. Inside the main halls, visitors can examine steam engines, early radios and telecommunications equipment, printing presses, navigational instruments and a remarkable array of vintage vehicles. Interactive stations and workshop displays make the collection accessible to visitors of all ages.

Getting there
Hasköy is accessible by taking the Haliç (Golden Horn) ferry from Eminönü or Karaköy piers, with a stop at Hasköy. Bus lines from Taksim and Beyoğlu also serve the neighbourhood. Visitors arriving by car will find limited street parking in the surrounding streets. The museum is approximately 4 km from Taksim Square.
