Overview

Paris Las Vegas was developed by Park Place Entertainment on a site adjacent to Bally’s, to which it remains connected by a walkway. The property cost approximately $785 million to build and was designed to bring the atmosphere of Paris — gastronomy, fashion, and architectural grandeur — to the Strip. The Eiffel Tower replica includes an observation deck at the 460-foot level offering panoramic views of the Las Vegas Valley, and is illuminated nightly referencing the original tower’s light show. Caesars Entertainment acquired Paris Las Vegas as part of its broader Strip portfolio.

History

The resort broke ground in 1997 under Hilton Hotels Corporation’s gaming division, operating as Park Place Entertainment, and opened on September 1, 1999. The Eiffel Tower replica required a special engineering study since the steel legs had to be anchored through the casino floor — unlike the original tower, which was designed to be removable, the Las Vegas version is permanently fixed. Caesars Entertainment acquired the property through successive corporate mergers and has maintained the Parisian theme while updating the dining and entertainment programme.

What you see

The Eiffel Tower replica dominates the exterior, its four legs passing through the casino roof and anchored to the floor within — a structural solution unique to this building. The facade of the hotel tower incorporates elements of Haussmann-era Parisian architecture, with mansard roofs and stone-coloured cladding facing the Strip. Inside, the casino is themed as an open Parisian street, with lamp posts, cobblestones, and a painted sky ceiling. Approximately a dozen restaurants and bars range from classic French brasserie to contemporary concepts, and the 1,400-seat theatre hosts resident entertainers and touring productions.

Cultural significance

Paris Las Vegas exemplifies the second generation of Las Vegas themed mega-resorts, which moved beyond medieval and ancient-world settings toward European urban atmospheres associated with luxury, cuisine, and cultural sophistication. The half-scale Eiffel Tower has become one of the most photographed structures on the Strip and a recurring visual reference point for Las Vegas in international media. Together with The Venetian across the boulevard, it contributed to the mid-Strip’s identity as the city’s most architecture-focused entertainment corridor.
