2021 Techno

The Museion (from the Greek &mu;&omicron;&upsilon;&sigma;&epsilon;?&omicron;&nu;, the temple of the muses) is the museum of modern and contemporary art based in Bolzano, South Tyrol.



It was founded in 1985 by a private association with the support of the autonomous province of Bolzano.



In August 2006 the Museion Foundation was established, which includes the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Museion association.



Under the presidency of Marion Piffer Damiani, the Foundation aims to promote and enhance contemporary art since the 1950s.



On 24 May 2008, Museion inaugurated the new headquarters designed by the Berlin architects of the KSV Kr&uuml;ger Schuberth Vandreike studio in the center of Bolzano.




History

Founded in 1985 by a private association with the support of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the then Museum of Modern Art began its activity in 1987 at its headquarters in via Sernesi under the direction of Pier Luigi Siena and the presidency of Karl Nicolussi- Leck. Initially, the institution has a regional dimension: the purpose is the promotion and documentation of the visual arts in the area between Ala and Kufstein (historic Tyrol) for the period from 1900 onwards.



With the beginning of the nineties the activity opens to the comparison between the Italian and German artistic expressions. The name Museion, adopted in 1991, intends to reflect the interdisciplinary vocation characteristic of contemporary art.



In 1991 the museum took the name of Museion, making explicit the intention to expand the collection and exhibition activity to interdisciplinarity.



In 2000, under the presidency of Alois Lageder, Museion became a museum of modern and contemporary art. Under the direction of Andreas Hapkemeyer, the subject of Language in Art emerges as a significant area of ??specialization.



An area that is closely linked to the territory, being a border region with three official languages, an objective also pursued by the director Corinne Diserens, until November 2008.



From 2009 to 2020 the museum was directed by Letizia Ragaglia, who curated solo exhibitions of Monica Bonvicini, Isa Genzken, Andro Wekua, VALIE EXPORT, Carl Andre, Claire Fontaine, Pawe? Althamer, Rosemarie Trockel, Danh Vo, Klara Lid&eacute;n, Ceal Floyer, Tatiana Trouv&eacute;, Rossella Biscotti, Cerith Wyn Evans, Francesco Vezzoli, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Judith Hopf Lili Reynaud Dewar, John Armleder, Keren Cytter, Haim Steinbach and Marguerite Humeau, as well as several exhibitions from the museum&#39;s collection. Since June 2020, the Director of Museion is Bart van der Heide.
