History

The Aosta Valley has been settled since Roman times, and its side valleys were controlled by feudal lords from fortified seats. Introd developed around the Castello di Introd, a medieval castle that guarded the approach to the high valleys. The area shares the Franco-Provençal cultural tradition of the western Alps.
