Harry Bertoia Gallery

A renovated palazzo in Pordenone’s center now serves as a contemporary exhibition space, honoring the legacy of designer and artist Harry Bertoia.

At a glance

Palazzo Spelladi, located on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, houses the Harry Bertoia Gallery. The municipality repurposed the historic building as a cultural venue following comprehensive restoration in 2014.

History

The palazzo’s structure evolved through centuries of architectural interventions—demolitions, unifications, and volumetric modifications reshaped the original design. In 1980, the Municipality of Pordenone acquired the building and initially assigned its spaces to registry offices. A major renovation campaign culminated in 2014, transforming the palazzo into a dedicated exhibition gallery.

What you see

The current complex reflects its layered history. Multiple periods of alteration have produced the building visitors encounter today, though the palazzo retains its prominent position along one of Pordenone’s principal streets.

Cultural significance

The gallery bears the name of Harry Bertoia (1915–1978), the acclaimed designer whose work spans furniture, sculpture, and metalcraft. The venue’s dedication to Bertoia underscores Pordenone’s commitment to preserving and presenting twentieth-century design heritage.
