Overview
Bologna’s Manifattura delle Arti district — named for the former industrial manufacturing complex converted into a hub for culture, education, and art — has emerged as the most concentrated contemporary art zone in the city. GalleriaPiù occupies a strategic position within this district, sharing its neighbourhood with non-profit spaces, institutions affiliated with MAMbo (the Museum of Modern Art of Bologna), and a growing number of independent galleries. The gallery’s programme is built around close collaboration with a core group of artists and a conviction that live and time-based work demands a dedicated platform.
History
Veronica Veronesi conceived GalleriaPiù in 2010 with the ambition of creating a gallery that could operate across the boundaries between commercial representation, live production, and experimental event formats. After a period of programme development, the gallery opened its commercial space in 2013. Veronesi subsequently co-founded the GALLERY TO GALLERY network, a collaborative circuit of Bologna galleries designed to offer visitors linked itineraries and to strengthen the collective identity of the city’s commercial gallery scene.
What you see
The gallery presents rotating exhibitions by artists from its represented roster and invited guests, with a programme that consistently foregrounds the body, colour, and materiality as subjects of artistic investigation. A recurring curatorial interest is the use of pink as a chromatic and conceptual marker — linking works across different media that examine the body as a site of inquiry. Alongside exhibition programming, the gallery produces live acts, concerts, live media events, and premieres, often in collaboration with other cultural institutions in the MDA district.
Cultural significance
GalleriaPiù represents the entrepreneurial energy that has made Bologna’s Manifattura delle Arti one of the most watched contemporary art districts in Italy, combining commercial gallery activity with experimental production in a model that challenges the traditional separation between market and research. Its GALLERY TO GALLERY network initiative illustrates a collaborative approach to art commerce that has attracted attention from curators and collectors across Europe.
