Fallani Artistic Serigraphy

A working silk-screen printing atelier housing one of the world’s most significant collections of contemporary prints, with over 1,000 works by more than 200 international artists since the 1960s.

At a glance

Fallani Artistic Serigraphy is a functioning workshop and archive dedicated to silk-screen printing. Founded by Fiorenzo Fallani in 1968, it introduced and championed a printing technique that was then virtually unknown in Italy, despite its popularity in the United States and its natural affinity with pop art. The atelier remains open to artists and creatives seeking to experiment with serigraphy.

History

Fiorenzo Fallani established the workshop in 1968 with a mission to experiment with and promote silk-screen printing in Italy. The technique’s great expressive versatility proved particularly suited to pop art, an artistic movement that had developed in the United States during the 1950s. Over decades, the atelier became a destination for international artists. Recently reopened by Gruppofallani with his son Gianpaolo, the workshop continues its original spirit as a creative hub for printmakers and experimenters worldwide.

What you see

The atelier occupies a small space functioning as both working studio and archive. Inside are the tools and materials of the silk-screen trade—fabric meshes used as stencils, inks, and printing equipment—alongside the extensive historical collection documenting five decades of artistic production. The workshop remains a living laboratory rather than a museum display.

Cultural significance

Fallani holds international importance as a repository of contemporary printmaking practice. Its collection of over 1,000 works documents the evolution and reach of serigraphy as an artistic medium across continents and decades. The atelier’s role in introducing and sustaining silk-screen printing in Italy marks a significant chapter in European modern art history.
