Overview

Da Vittorio is set on a country estate in Brusaporto, surrounded by the Bergamasque countryside at the foot of the Orobic Alps. The restaurant is a family affair in the fullest sense: the children and grandchildren of founder Vittorio Cerea run the kitchen, the dining room, and the associated hotel, creating an atmosphere of generous Italian hospitality that sets it apart from more formal three-star institutions. The cuisine draws deeply on the flavours of Bergamo and the Lombard lakes while embracing modern technique, from house-cured meats to risotti and fresh pasta made daily.

History

Vittorio Cerea opened the original restaurant in the city of Bergamo in 1966, building a reputation for quality ingredients and honest Lombard cooking. As the family grew and the restaurant's reputation expanded, the decision was made to relocate to a larger country estate in Brusaporto, where the kitchen could develop without the constraints of an urban setting. Michelin recognition came progressively, culminating in three stars. The Cerea children — each assigned specific roles in the business — have continued to evolve the menu while preserving the warmth and generosity that Vittorio established as the restaurant's core identity.

What you see

The estate in Brusaporto includes the main dining rooms, private dining spaces, and a hotel, all arranged around landscaped gardens with views toward the Bergamo hills. Inside, the rooms are elegant without severity, decorated with artworks and family memorabilia that reinforce the domestic character of the place. The service is warm and profuse, reflecting the Cerea family's philosophy that abundance and care are the best expressions of hospitality. The menu changes seasonally, with a bread cart, antipasto selection, and generous use of truffles, foie gras, and luxury Italian seafood alongside locally sourced freshwater fish and game.

Cultural significance

Da Vittorio represents one of the most enduring models of family-run fine dining in Italy, demonstrating that three Michelin stars need not come at the cost of warmth or personal engagement. The Cerea family has contributed to the visibility of Bergamo and its surrounding province as a gastronomic destination, complementing the city's Venetian heritage and medieval upper town (Città Alta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The restaurant has also expanded internationally, with Da Vittorio outposts in St. Moritz and other locations, extending the family's model of Italian hospitality abroad.
