Bisaccioni Palace

A Renaissance palace overlooking Piazza Colocci now houses the Savings Bank Foundation’s art collections, historic archive, and an exceptionally preserved 1950s bank vault open to visitors.

At a glance

Bisaccioni Palace stands in central Jesi on the foundations of an ancient Roman theater. Built in 1527, it retains Renaissance details—a decorated stone portal and inscribed window frame—despite multiple renovations. Since 1844 it served as headquarters for the Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi savings bank. Today it functions as a cultural institution housing an art gallery, historical archive, and library, alongside the remarkably preserved original bank vault.

History

The palace was constructed in 1527 on land formerly occupied by a Roman theater. Its long association with banking began in 1844 when it became the seat of the Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi. Following banking reforms in 1990, the foundation was established in 1992 to manage cultural and social activities separate from banking operations. The building’s interior features a distinctive 1950s bank vault, built during an era of institutional prestige and still intact.

What you see

The Renaissance structure survives in carefully preserved details: an ornate portal with white stone jambs and an inscribed window frame. Multiple renovations have substantially altered the original appearance, but these elements document its sixteenth-century origins. The palace contains reception rooms, conference spaces, and a vaulted Treasury chamber. The vault itself commands attention—an imposing structure with period safes, safety deposit boxes, and secret passages that conveys both security and intrigue.

Cultural significance

The palace represents an important intersection of local history, art patronage, and financial heritage. Its art collection ranges from sixteenth- to eighteenth-century works—including paintings by Francesco da Ponte, Guercino, Carlo Cignani, and Giorgio Vasari—to contemporary pieces by regional artists like Orfeo Tamburi and Edmondo Giuliani. The vault exhibition, combined with numismatic displays tracing Italian monetary history, makes economic and social heritage tangible for all ages.
