History
The baglio—a fortified Sicilian farmhouse—originally belonged to the Florio family, whose name remains attached to the surrounding countryside. By 2000, the structure had deteriorated into ruins. Paola and Giacomo Ansaldi purchased the property and undertook careful restoration work, recovering the building and its agricultural function. The renovation restored not just stone and tile, but also the vineyard traditions rooted in the landscape for generations.

The restored baglio now accommodates 15 elegantly furnished guest rooms, offering visitors both comfort and immersion in rural Sicilian life. A restaurant serves traditional dishes from the region. The productive heart of the estate remains its cellar, where 11 hectares of organic vineyards yield five wines. Below ground lies a wine museum—a living archive of Marsala’s heritage and the estate’s own collection of perpetual wine, a product believed capable of aging indefinitely.
Cultural significance
Perpetual wine represents far more than an alcoholic beverage; it embodies Marsala’s peasant traditions and the identity of the families who stewarded this territory. The collection housed here is the largest of its kind in Italy. The estate itself demonstrates how contemporary restoration can honour both vernacular architecture and the agricultural heritage it was built to serve—connecting past and present through the continuity of wine production.
