Overview
A plus A Gallery occupies a prominent position within Venice’s contemporary art scene, offering a dynamic programme of solo and group exhibitions throughout the year. The gallery has built a reputation for introducing international artists to Italian audiences and for fostering dialogue between Eastern European, Central Asian, and Western artistic practices. Its location in Venice places it in dialogue with the city’s rich artistic heritage and with the periodic energy of the Venice Biennale.
History
The gallery was established in Venice in the early 2000s with a mission to provide a platform for international contemporary art in one of the world’s most culturally significant cities. Over the years it has developed partnerships with cultural institutions and embassies across Europe and Asia, expanding its programme to include artist residencies and educational events. The gallery has contributed to Venice’s role as a global hub for contemporary art exchange, particularly during the biennial exhibition cycle.
What you see
The gallery features a clean, well-lit exhibition space typical of contemporary white cube presentation, allowing each artwork to communicate on its own terms. Visitors encounter rotating installations, paintings, video works, and multimedia pieces that shift with each new exhibition. The intimate scale of the space encourages close engagement with the works and with the artists who frequently attend openings and artist talks.
Cultural significance
A plus A Gallery plays a meaningful role in Venice’s contemporary cultural landscape by bridging geographically diverse artistic communities and making international art accessible to the city’s diverse audience of residents and visitors. Its programme frequently engages with themes of identity, migration, and social transformation, giving voice to perspectives that enrich the broader conversation about art and culture in the 21st century.
