UNESCO World Heritage Sites Near Valparaíso: the Victorian Cape Horn Port City, Its Funicular Railways and Pablo Neruda’s La Sebastiana
Valparaíso’s Historic Quarter (inscribed 2003) is the most complete surviving Pacific coast port city from the Cape Horn maritime era (1850–1914): 42 named cerros (hills), 30 funicular railways (ascensores), Victorian corrugated-iron painted facades, and the densest street art concentration in South America. Pablo Neruda’s La Sebastiana house is on Cerro Florida.
Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune: the fortress Louis XI pulled down, with a hundred fighter jets on the lawn
A Burgundian château built in 1340 and dismantled on the orders of Louis XI, restored from 1979 by the winegrower Michel Pont and filled with seven museums: nearly a hundred fighter jets in the park, 250 motorcycles, thirty Abarth prototypes and the straddle tractors that replaced the horse in the vines.

Ethiopia’s Lucy fossil site (Awash Valley, inscribed 1980) is accessible 200 km northwest.
