Apollo Palace (Palatul Apollo), Oradea
Another palace on Oradea’s Art Nouveau trail, from the local dynasty of architects who shaped the city.
At a glance
The Apollo Palace stands in the centre of Oradea, one of the many Secession palaces that make the city a capital of Art Nouveau. Kálmán Rimanóczy Jr., from a dynasty of Oradea architects, designed it between 1912 and 1914 as a commercial and residential block. It takes its name from a cinema that once operated inside.

History
The Rimanóczy family built much of turn-of-the-century Oradea, and Kálmán Jr. designed several of its Art Nouveau landmarks, including the Moskovits Miksa Palace. The Apollo was among his later works in the city, finished in 1914.
It housed shops, apartments and a cinema, the Apollo, that gave it its name. Restored along with the rest of the quarter, it remains a stop on Oradea’s Art Nouveau trail.
What you see
The façade carries the curving lines and floral ornament of the late Secession, over shopfronts and apartment windows, with ironwork balconies and a decorated roofline. It reads as one voice in the chorus of palaces along Oradea’s main street.
