Bolzano 1919–1945: A Walking Tour of the Fascist City
Four buildings, 3.2 kilometres, two and a half to three hours. This itinerary traces the built legacy of Italian fascism in Bolzano — the most politically contested urban landscape in postwar Europe. The city was Austrian until 1919, German-speaking until the fascist Italianisation programme began in 1923, German-occupied from 1943 to 1945, and bilingual under the 1972 Second Statute of Autonomy since then. None of the buildings on this route have been demolished. Most are still in active use.
