Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge
A transparent pedestrian bridge spanning 430 metres across a canyon in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan and engineered to withstand the weight of up to 800 visitors at once.

The Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge crosses a dramatic canyon between two mountain cliffs in central Hunan province. Its 3-layer tempered glass panels create an illusion of walking on air 300 metres above the ground. The bridge held the title of world’s longest and tallest glass bridge at the time of its opening.
History
The bridge opened to the public on 20 August 2016. Israeli architect Haim Dotan designed the structure to integrate seamlessly into the existing landscape of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Engineers built four supporting pillars anchored into the canyon walls to support the 430-metre span.
What you see
The bridge comprises a metal structure reinforced with over 120 glass panels, each 2 inches thick. Three long swings extend from the lower section, allowing visitors to swing out over the void. A bungee-jumping platform operates at 285 metres, one of the world’s highest jump points.
Cultural significance
The bridge represents a bold intersection of engineering innovation and tourism development in contemporary China. It demonstrates how extreme engineering can transform natural landscapes into visitor experiences while maintaining structural integrity in harsh mountain conditions.
