History
Before 1912, Darmstadt’s railway infrastructure consisted of two separate stations at Steubenplatz, located roughly one kilometre closer to the city centre to the east. These facilities proved increasingly inadequate for the city’s growing transport demands. The construction of a unified central station addressed this inefficiency and modernised the city’s connection to the wider railway network.
Architect Friedrich Pützer designed the new station as one of his major works, completing it in 1912.
