The hull fills the upper half of the sheet, cut in short parallel strokes that turn with its curve. On the bow the name Padre Pace can be read, partly crossed by the mooring lines. The anchor hangs to the right; the ropes come down in long curves and go on rippling across the water in the lower half, where the engraver worked the reflections as thin white lines on black. Behind, an arcaded quay closes the horizon. In the lower left corner, cut into the block: 1929 — SERVOLINI.
Luigi Servolini (Livorno, 10 March 1906 – Livorno, 21 September 1981) was an engraver, art critic, art historian, librarian and translator, remembered among the masters of Italian engraving; his woodcuts are described as marked by classical cutting and formal order.
