The entrance to Cinecittà, Rome’s film studio complex, was designed by architect Gino Peressutti and engineer Carlo Roncoroni between 1936 and 1937. The facility opened on 28 April 1937.
Cinecittà occupies 400,000 square metres, making it the largest film studio in Europe. The complex has hosted numerous Italian and international filmmakers, from Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone and Luchino Visconti to Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. Approximately 3,000 films have been shot at the studios, of which 90 received Oscar nominations and 51 won the award.
About Gino Peressutti
Gino Peressutti (1883–1940) was an Italian architect from Gemona del Friuli. Beyond Cinecittà, his major commissions included the Piazza Giovanni Agnelli complex at EUR in Rome, now the home of the Museo della Civiltà Romana, and the INPS and COGI buildings constructed between 1936 and 1938.
