In the amphibious landscape of the Polesine, where the Po and Adige rivers meet the Adriatic Sea, water was the primary highway of commerce. In 1927, shipbuilder Luigi Duò established his shipyard on the banks of the Canalbianco in the ancient Etruscan port city of Adria. Utilizing local oak, larch, and forged iron fasteners, Duò built sturdy river freighters, dredgers, and lagoon fishing bragozzi that sustained Venetian commerce.
As commercial navigation modernized in the 1930s, the yard transitioned to riveted steel hulls, establishing a reputation for structural robustness capable of enduring the unpredictable currents of the Po Delta and Adriatic storms.
From Wooden Barges to Unsinkable Patrol Cruisers: A Century of Naval Craft
Over four generations of Duò family leadership, Cantiere Navale Vittoria diversified into high-tech aluminum and specialized alloy naval vessels. The yard became the primary builder of fast interceptors and self-righting search-and-rescue boats for the Italian Coast Guard (including the renowned CP 420 Natale De Grazia), the Guardia di Finanza, and international maritime authorities from Malta to Oman.
Approaching its 2027 centenary along the historic slipways of Adria, Cantiere Navale Vittoria represents the pinnacle of Veneto shipbuilding craft, uniting riverine heritage with modern ocean rescue engineering.
