Release Anniversary: San Giovanni decollato — December 1, 1940
San Giovanni decollato, directed by Amleto Palermi, gave Antonio De Curtis — Totò — one of his early screen roles opposite Silvana Jachino. Italian censorship cleared the film on 28 December 1940, and reviews in the trade press began appearing in January 1941, placing its release between the end of 1940 and the first days of the new year.
A note on this date. Only the month of release is documented — December 1940, right after the censorship clearance of 28 December — not the exact day. We publish it with the warning, on the first of the month, rather than leave the page out; if you know the exact day — a programme, a censorship record, a newspaper listing — write to Sofia and we will confirm or correct it.
Dates verified on Italian Wikipedia, voce del film; tototruffa2002.it, filmografia 1937-1949 (visto censura 28 dicembre 1940).
