The Lalique Museum Nederland was founded in 2011 and occupies three historic buildings in the centre of Doesburg, in Gelderland. It shows the glass, ornament and jewellery of the French designer René Lalique (1860–1945): jewels, perfume bottles, car mascots, figures, tableware and vases, some three thousand pieces in all. Alongside the permanent display it mounts exhibitions on Lalique and his contemporaries, within a range of roughly 1850 to 1950.

History
René Lalique made his name twice: first as a jeweller of the Art Nouveau years, then as a maker of glass — perfume bottles, vases, the mascots that stood on the bonnets of cars. The two halves of that career are usually shown apart. Here they are shown together.
The museum was set up in 2011 by a Dutch foundation, and the collection was assembled by merging private holdings that were given to it or placed on long loan. Its range reaches beyond Lalique: where it is relevant, the display takes in his services and furniture, and the work he did for buildings, ships and trains.
What you see
Three houses on the Gasthuisstraat, plastered white with black shutters and stone-framed windows, standing on a brick street with planters along the front. The museum is behind ordinary domestic facades — the sort of building a small Hanseatic town is made of — which makes the glass inside land harder.
