Magnificent Jewels! Lalique and His Contemporaries (Lalique Museum, Doesburg)
The Lalique Museum in Doesburg, in the Dutch province of Gelderland, reopened on 5 July 2026 after a restoration, and opened with the collection it is named for: jewellery. Magnificent Jewels! gathers 130 rare pieces of Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewellery by René Lalique and his contemporaries in a newly secured jewellery room.
The exhibition follows the development of modern jewellery from the end of the nineteenth century into the beginning of the twentieth — the decades when the trade stopped measuring a jewel by the weight of its stones and started valuing what the maker had done with glass, horn, enamel and insects. Private collectors, international jewellers and other museums lent pieces for the opening show.
