History
Construction began in 1965 under the direction of architect Gehrdt Bornebusch, working alongside Max Brüel and Jørgen Selchau. The hospital opened in 1976 to serve the Copenhagen region. Its former name, Amtssygehuset i Herlev, changed following Denmark’s Municipal Reform on January 1, 2007, which abolished the traditional county system. In 1987, the hospital gained unexpected prominence when an undetonated pipe bomb was discovered within its walls during the so-called hospital bombings.
