History
Opened on 26 August 1912, the synagogue was built to serve Berlin’s liberal Jewish congregation in a prosperous neighbourhood. The Nazis closed the building in 1936 as part of their systematic persecution of Jewish institutions. During Kristallnacht in November 1938, the synagogue was partially destroyed in coordinated attacks across Nazi Germany. Further devastation came in 1943 when Allied air raids during World War II damaged the structure irreparably.
