Jeongnimsa

History
Founded in 538, Jeongnimsa rose to prominence as Buddhism became integral to Baekje court life and royal patronage. The temple endured through centuries of Korean history, continuing its spiritual and cultural role into the Goryeo period (918–1392). Its longevity testifies to the deep roots of Buddhist practice on the Korean peninsula. The site gained formal protection as a Historic Site of South Korea in 1983, and in 2015 was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the broader Baekje Historic Areas designation.
