Weaver’s House Museum
A rare surviving example of 18th-century craftsman architecture, this log cabin with its original hay store now preserves the domestic and working life of Silesian artisans.

The Weaver’s House is a timber-built museum in Stare Bielsko (Old Bielsko), the historic core of Bielsko-Biała. For over two centuries it served as both residence and workshop. The building combines living quarters with the practical infrastructure of craft production, including a characteristic external hay store essential to 18th-century rural and semi-urban life.
History
The house functioned continuously as a working craftsman’s residence from the 18th century until the early 1900s. In the second half of the 18th century it belonged to the Bartke family; the Bathelts occupied it during the 19th century. From 1873, Carl Nowak owned the property, followed by his widow Marie. Early in the 20th century a local shoemaker, Antoni Polończyk, became the resident.
After World War II the building deteriorated into a tenement house until Wiktor Polończyk, Antoni’s son, donated it to the Polish State in 1974. Extensive restoration work took place over eighteen years. The District Museum in Bielsko-Biała opened the exhibition to public view in 1992.
