Villa Haux stands as a landmark of Art Nouveau style in southern Germany, completed in 1908 by architects Richard Böklen and Carl Feil. Commissioned by Kommerzienrat Friedrich Haux (1860–1929), a prominent textile manufacturer, the villa showcased the latest innovations in residential comfort and was positioned strategically between his factory and the town’s railway line.
History
The site had previously held Haux’s residence and office, a timber-framing structure erected in 1885 and decorated in neo-baroque style in 1898. Rather than demolish this functional building, Haux relocated it across the street to make way for his new villa. The Haux family occupied the houses until 1954, after which the new villa transitioned to business use and rental operations. From 1978 the building stood vacant until a new owner began restoration work in 1991. Today it serves as offices for the Klaiber-Schlegel tax advisory firm and hosts cultural events.
