History
The building started life as the Uwajima Police Station in the Hirōkoji district. It served that function for decades. In 1953 authorities dismantled and relocated it to Nishiumi, an area now part of Ainan, where it became the town hall. It held that civic role until January 1990. Two years later, in March 1992, the structure returned to Uwajima itself. It was reassembled near the Kabasaki Battery site and reopened as a museum dedicated to local history.
