History
Originally constructed in the 15th century as a Gothic structure, the building suffered catastrophic damage during a devastating town fire in 1550, leaving only fragments of its outer walls. A second fire in 1599 compounded the destruction. Rebuilt in 1615 in Renaissance style, the structure took its present form with arcaded galleries on the ground and first floors. A belfry was added between 1656 and 1661. The entire edifice underwent major reconstruction in 1893–95, restoring it to its current state.

The façade displays Renaissance symmetry with two tiers of arcaded openings that lighten and animate the street-facing walls. The southern facade features allegorical wall-paintings depicting the civic virtues of moderation, care, bravery, patience, and justice. The belfry crowns the composition with traditional Slovak proportions.

As Levoča’s administrative and cultural seat for centuries, the hall embodies the town’s resilience and evolving architectural tastes.
