History
Built initially in the 14th century as a defensive stronghold, the castle monitored merchant caravans on the trade routes below. The structure comprised a polygonal tower connected to the main building by a defensive wall. During the Gothic period, Jan von Šelmberk and later Konrad Kraiger Kraigk commissioned palace wings between the two parts.
The Wartenberg family undertook a Renaissance transformation, converting the fortress into a residential château. Albrecht von Wallenstein acquired the property in 1621; the noble Desfours family then held it for more than three centuries until 1945. Following 1822, architect Jan F. Joendl oversaw significant upgrades to the complex.
