Cooter’s Place is a museum and store devoted to The Dukes of Hazzard, founded by the actor Ben Jones, who played the mechanic Cooter Davenport in the series. In Nashville it gathers the cars, costumes and props of the show under one roof — the fictional Hazzard garage made real.
Cooter’s garage in the series
In the show, Cooter Davenport runs the Hazzard garage, the meeting place and refuge of the cousins Bo and Luke Duke. It is where the orange 1969 Dodge Charger, the General Lee, is repaired and tuned: Cooter is the only mechanic the Duke family trusts with the car, and his tow truck is forever hauling the boys out of trouble during their chases with Sheriff Rosco. The garage is, in effect, the Dukes’ workshop and safe house at once.
From character to museum
Ben Jones turned the role into a place. He opened Cooter’s Place as a museum and store dedicated to the series, with locations in Tennessee — the main branches in Nashville and Gatlinburg — where fans can see the show made tangible and, often, meet Cooter himself.
What you see
The star is a General Lee, the 1969 Dodge Charger with the number 01 on its doors and the rebel flag on the roof. Around it stand the show’s other vehicles — Cooter’s tow truck, Daisy’s Jeep, Sheriff Rosco’s patrol car — alongside original costumes, scripts, photographs and props, with a store of memorabilia attached.

The Nashville museum is at 2613 McGavock Pike, in the Music Valley district near Opryland, a short drive north-east of downtown Nashville.
