History
The church’s construction began in the 12th century following the medieval custom of building from the sanctuary outward—the apse remains Romanesque in character. Work proceeded intermittently across the following centuries, gathering momentum in the 14th century. In 1821, the structure was adapted for use as a parish church and served the community for six decades. Worship ceased permanently in 1881 when the surrounding neighborhood depopulated. Official recognition came on 3 June 1981, when the church received the designation Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Property of Interest).
