History
The original village of Cheongpung occupied a ridge above what is now Chungju Lake in North Chungcheong Province. Construction of Chungju Dam inundated the settlement, threatening its cultural memory. Rather than allow it to disappear entirely, the village was reconstructed at this complex as a living archive of traditional Korean life.
