This untitled work was created by Enzo Benedetto in 1925, during the artist’s formative years within the Futurist movement. Benedetto, born in Reggio Calabria in 1905, had recently joined the second wave of Futurism in 1924 after meeting Mino Somenzi. Christened “Record” by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti himself, Benedetto would remain a committed practitioner of Futurist principles throughout his career until his death in Rome in 1993.
By 1925, Benedetto was already developing his distinctive theoretical and artistic approach: the fusion of colour with language. He coined the term cromo-paro-libera to describe this synthesis between painting and written word. That same year, he co-edited the journal Interplanetario with Libero de Libero, a publication notable for publishing Alberto Moravia’s earliest writings. The following year, Benedetto would curate the Futurist section of the IV Biennial of Calabrese Art in Reggio Calabria, cementing his role as a key organizer of avant-garde exhibition practice in Italy.

Benedetto emerged as both artist and theorist during Futurism’s second phase. Beyond painting, he engaged in editorial work and manifesto writing, reviving and reframing Futurist ideology in the post-war period with Futurismo Oggi in 1967.
