Founded in 1916 in the hilltop town of Camerano on the slopes of Monte Conero, Scandalli F.lli established itself as a premier musical instrument house, pioneering technical innovations in accordion design that resonated through twentieth-century concert halls worldwide.

Artisanal Roots on the Conero Slopes

Silvio Scandalli began handcrafting simple accordions in a humble family cottage around 1900. In 1916, joined by his brothers Enrico and Albino, he formally organized Scandalli F.lli as an industrial workshop, capitalizing on the proximity of pilgrimage trade in nearby Loreto to distribute their instruments. Silvio Scandalli brought extraordinary mechanical ingenuity to the trade, securing patents for contoured ergonomic keyboards in 1924 and refining the resonance of tempered Swedish steel reeds. By 1930, the Camerano manufacture employed over one hundred artisans, exporting ornate celluloid and pearloid accordions to North and South America.

The Genesis of Farfisa and the Super VI Legend

In 1946, facing global post-war industrial restructuring, Scandalli united with neighboring rival Settimio Soprani and Frontalini to form Farfisa (Fabbriche Riunite di Fisarmoniche), creating one of the largest musical instrument manufacturing consortiums on earth. In the early 1950s, Silvio Scandalli unveiled his magnum opus: the Scandalli Super VI, universally revered among accordionists as the “Stradivarius of accordions” for its peerless tonal warmth and dual-cassotto acoustic chamber. Today recognized on Italy’s Register of Historic Trademarks of National Interest, the legacy of Scandalli is preserved in Camerano’s International Accordion Museum and active artisan workshops.
