A visit to the Casa Madre dei Mutilati di Guerra
An eye-catching pentagonal building designed by Marcello Piacentini in the late 1920s. The complex in Piazza Adriana, Rome, presents powerful yet restrained forms, its memorial tower rising over the neighbourhood skyline.
Marble, bronze, fresco and encaustic works by major early-twentieth-century artists — Prini, Dazzi, Santagata, Sironi — commemorate the sacrifice of Great War veterans across the building’s Salone delle Adunate, chapel, courtyard, staircase and halls.
