Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace – Ksar Hadada as Mos Espa slave quarters (1999)
01 January 1999 — 31 December 1999
In Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (dir. George Lucas, 1999), the fortified ksar complex of Ksar Hadada in Tataouine Governorate, Tunisia was used as the exterior of the slave quarters of Mos Espa, the desert city on the planet Tatooine where young Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) lives with his mother Shmi. The tiered stone ghorfas and ochre-walled courtyard of Ksar Hadada appear in several establishing and location scenes depicting the Mos Espa slave district.
