In Slumdog Millionaire (2008), the runaway brothers Jamal and Salim survive by working the Taj Mahal as self-appointed guides, inventing history for tourists and making off with their shoes. Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning film set the episode against the real seventeenth-century Mughal mausoleum that Shah Jahan raised for his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
